I have always recorded my vocals with a sm-57. I have a new Marshall MXL 1006 on order which will be arriving soon...did I make a good choice and will I get better results recording my voice with it than I did with the 57??

I guess that depends on your voice. Everyone will sound a little different with each mic. I would prefer to use a 58, but either will produce a pretty good live sound. (I find that dynamic mics don't have the warmth of condensor mics, and they sound a bit wooly, but if you're in a pinch, I'd go with a Shure mic. For most recording, I'd save the 57 for micing snare drums and guitar amps).

"na..a-a-a-a-a-a---they don't..." he said sheepishly:p

I think the 1006 is a great choice for vocals. It's warm and very accurate. The difference between the 57' and the 1006 is night and day.

If you are dealing with spoken word, though, I would stick to the 57'.
