Slow Playback?

I am sorry, I just got my Tascam 488 and i recorded on it for about a minute, and played it back on my boombox, and it was super slow, if anyone can diagnose the problem, it probably is me, that would be very helpfull, thanks.

It records at double speed.

You have to make a mixdown tape to play in your boombox. :eek: ;)
 
dont you also have the option to record in normal speed though? 424 has a switch for high or normal speed.

E'one was new once.

First you must [learn how to] record on tracks 1-8 with primary tracks and overdubs onto cassette using the 488. The manual is helpful sometimes.

When your song is completed on the 488, switch each channel [1-8 input select] to "MIX" and assign each channel to "GROUP 1 & 2", (which is customary, although you could use Groups 3/4 if you wanted). The PAN control on each channel varies each tape track [1-8] in the stereo/left/right spectrum to Groups 1/2, respectively. This is your stereo mix.

Connect from the Group 1/2 RCA line outputs on the 488 to the 'puter soundcard line in on 1/8" plug or an external "standard" cassette tape recorder. Dub from the 488 to another tape on the standard deck. [Record on your mixdown recorder while playing back the mix from the 488].

... That does the trick!
 
I think that model has 2 speeds I still have one somewhere.
Any way you can't record a cassette on your Tascam then stick that same tape into your boom box. That is what it sounds like you are doing.
The media format and tape heads are completely different. If you record on both sides of a tape you will even hear a couple of tracks backwards.

You can record on the Tascam then mix it down to your boombox recorder such as the previous member sugest.
