Ok, my friend is using Cubase SL 3, I think that's the version. I have Cubase SX3 laying around unopened in my closet somewhere that I puchased a while back but got Nuendo 3 & Pro Tools instead. My question is that what's the difference between the SL3 & SX3 and is it worth the upgrade. I'll be giving him SX3 if it is.

ummm, no it's not worth it, now give me SX3!!

Seriously, I'm an SL user at the moment and there are a few things that I miss from SX. One is the phase reversal button on the mixer (not a big deal, but it would be handy), the other thing is the use of external effects as inserts (this would be cool too). I don't do any suround stuff so no big deal there. For the two features I mentioned, it wasn't worth the upgrade to SX for me. But if anyone was selling SX and had a good deal I would jump on it. But I wouldn't buy it retail.

Hope that helps.

Thanks brzilian that helped...

The worth it part might not be a accurate term i was looking for in my own question lol. He's running SL or SE I can't remember, but pretty sure SL. We record usually in the studio on Pro Tools HD systems etc. At home, that's a different story. His setup at home is shit. SM57 to behringer mixer to built in sound card on a slow crap computer running cubase. I myself, am ok in my setup. So I was going to help him out by giving him a newer version of cubase free. From what I can see, and what you told me, is the external effects issue, and of course surround sound issue. Which for me are a little more important, so I'll probably give it to him to install. This being all free of course lol. He's one of my artists, and I feel that whenever I come over to lay something down, I shouldn't be working with sub sub sub par equipment.... So I'll give him that, and my old 24/96, and 990MXL, and he should sound better.

Geez Mindset, you sure are a pretty sweet ass guy. How about you send me SX. It might be too complicated for him and I'll send him my copy of cubase VST/32. ;)
