SIR v1.005 and Sonar

Hello Peoples,

I have been converted to SIR as a reverb tool and really like the results I am getting.

Latency, my current bug-bear of choice, seems to be really killing me.

Using SIR on a bus being fed from a couple of sends means I have to turn my latency up from 2.2msec to about 30msec for me to get anything other than a drop out.

Using Aardvark's WDM driver, the ASIO one seems much the same.

So, my question is - is this normal operation for SIR or does it sound like I have something killing me somewhere?

Well, convolution reverb is pretty CPU intensive, but it shouldn't be that much of a CPU killer. What reverb files are you loading?
 
when i tried it

i couldn't get a respectable sound out of it are there some magical settings or tricks or starting points

I downloaded impulses from Noisevault for a Lexicon PCM91. From the PCM91ROOMS folder, I was selecting the "Large Room" impulse.

I'll try the older 0.86 release and see what it does.

Use it on a bus, not a track. Use a send to bring a little of it onto your track. If you can hear the reverb, turn it down. Balance the final sound with the send level and the track level. Play with the PRE and POST to determine where and when the track's sound get's hit with the bus' reverb.

downloaded impulse file but...

the files are .rar instead of .wav and can't be loaded what am i doing wrong -they were lekicon impulses.
 
.RAR files are compressed files, like .ZIP

You need to decompress them with something like WinRAR which should be easily found in Google.

I used the new SIR v1.005 last night across the master bus to put a stereo 96KHz 24 bit track into a different 'room' it sounded quite fine. For this type of home mastering job latency didn't enter in to it. :cool:
 
i "unzippede" impulse files-- but dropouts

i have pent 4- 2.4 ,1gig ram (sonar 3 producer) and both lexicon ambiances and halls drop out audio (audio stopped) -even before i push play.
I increased buffer size up a notch or two from 128 and am using asio driver w/ maudio firewire 410.

what does it be like?

by the way what is so special about impuse files since we have lexicon reverb in producer

It sounds cleaner, deeper and wider.

The Lexicon reverb in PE I find very grainy and colours everything in a way that SIR with these impulses does not.

Your drop out question is what I originally asked.

Specifically, what is the lowest you can set your latency and playback multiple tracks with and without SIR.

I was seeing a 30msec difference which I thought seemed excessive.

What do you get?

lgot it to work

set asio buffer ultimatly to 1024 and was read as 23 msec on audio options button slider (i guess buffer size automatically changes the msec) any way i was able to use slightly lower setting but found this to be more stable. also i like the sound wonder if anyone recomment their best impulse files.

i really liked the vocal magic in halls folder
