I just picked up a presonus MP20, and I run through a tascam 428.

the outs on the MP20 are XLR. The XLR ins on the tascam are not switchable between line level and mic level. I may have the termanology wrong, but I get a very hot signal when I route it this way. I want to get the most tranparent sound and least noise (of course). Am I just running the signal through two mic pres?

would I do better using an xlr to 1/4" adapter and running into the line level ins on the tascam?

If I take the outs that act as a main buss, I can get the level to be much more controlable (it was clipping even with the trim all the way down when I took the signal from just the pre outs)

sorry if this was a confusing post :-( I'm just trying to get all my stuff to work together.

Yes.

Yes, or just get an XLR-TRS cable. Don't get an impedance transformer, that's not what you want.

Still not a great idea, use the line ins on the Tascam.
