I had the 3340 and it had a little mixdown box that had 4 channels in and 2 out. Each channel had a switch that would make it Left - center. - right depending on the switch setting. I mixed down to a cassette tape. On this recording I just plugged the mic directly into the input on the tape deck.

Sounds like you had the same AX20 that I had! It wasn't the most sophisticated setup, but at the time, it served the purpose. When you can't afford any kind of mixer, then a Shure Unidyne B or 55 mic, the AX20 and a buddy's tape deck for mixing was all you needed.
