Retired guy. Literally just starting to record. Added a simple mixer and spkrs. to garageband. Recorded a guitar track. Now I cant listen to the playback and add harmonica track, because playback is only audible thru the speakers if I disconnect the mixr usb cable, and return sound to default internal output. If it matters, I have Bose Companion speakers and an Alesis Multimix 6. I must be doing something wrong. Any help will be much appreciated.

Are you running the mixer outs to the speakers and assigning the multimix as the playback device in your recording software?

Yeah, what Ocnor said, that's how you should do it. Your multimix is your sound card as far as windows is concerned. Connect it to your PC via the USB cable, then connect your speakers to the control room or master out's on the mixer. That's definite.

The only question is if the audio coming from the PC to the mixer goes on the main mix or not. If it does, then you might be playing your harmonica, and the track you record would have your previously recorded guitar AND the harmonica in it. (You're recording the main mix wit the USB connection) The multimix 8 has a switch so you can do it either way, but the mm6 doesn't.. So depending on how it's designed, it may or may not work
