is there a program i can buy that can record more than one track at the same time, i want to record all the instruments at the same time but the problem now is that they record on the same track i wanted to record on separate tracks in order to have more control over each instrument recorded. what should i buy?

Most recording software allows for simultaneous tracking. What you will need to look for is either a soundcard with multiple in/outs or a soundcard interface that will act as an adapter to convert your signals into separate tracks.

A common soundcard dedicated to recording multiple tracks is the M-Audio Delta series.

I advise Cubase, It's by far my own favorite, but pretty much all recording software that allows multiple tracks can do simontanus recording.

like stated before you'll need something like a delta1010 sound card or a usb mixer. I advise the usb mixer. becouse I did the delta route and ended up spending more $$ than I had hoped

Doesn't usb limit howmany tracks you can record at once? I thought you could only do 4 simaltaneously with usb. I'd personally look at something like a Presonus Firepod or whatever they're called. You get your firewire interface and 8 mic preamps all in one package.

Like others have said, it doesn't matter what program you use if your mixer/soundcard/recording medium can't support it. Pretty much every software will allow simultaneous tracks.

IMO, firewire is a great suggestion. Look up the PreSonus Firepod, Alesis multimix FIREWIRE series, or any of their firewire based cousins.
