Should the TrutH rely in the minidisk?

I have an interesting question for all! Should i invest in a simple portable minidisc for recording my personal high quality samples? I know that the minidisc offers mobility, flexibility in use and high quality recording but should i buy anything instead of a minidisc?

I would also like to know whether it is possible to store files on portable minidiscs?

ThanX

I really don't see the point of MD anymore now that we have CD-R, CD-RW and MP3. Back in the early 90's MD was pushed as the cool new alternative to CD because of its smaller size, no skipping etc.

Turns out that in order to get the media smaller and still hold as much info as it does, they used a compression sceme similar to the MPEG audio format (MP3). So really, you are not getting true CD quality sound. It makes even less sense now that we have MP3 players.

My personal opinion is that MD's are going the way of DAT and are pretty much too expensive for what they actually offer. But again, I can see your point on the mobility issue.

Lets see what other people have to say...

I own a sony MZR70, purchased it 18 months ago for a very cool £150 smackers :)

I am pretty pleased withit, however i had many problems when recording my MP3's onto my mini discs. The soundcard i have just wouldnt cope with stereo sound, it wanted mono, meaning only one earphone had music.

So check out your soundcard first. And your stereo for a Digital input slot.

On the recording side of things. It is pretty much crystal clear, 44khz recording, what mrmoe could you ask for. The only down side is that you have to have a pretty damn good amp/setup inorder to get a good sound out of it. Vocals are good on it, but keep the microphone a good 10 cm's away from your mouth, dont want heavy breathing in the tracks.

The great thing about mini disc players/recorders are that they are extremely versatile, in this i mean that you can take them anywhere, fit them into anything, and listen to pure music, or record wherever you are.

But if i am being honest, i bought mine for the novelty, now that hasn't worn off in the 18 months i have had it, but i use it less now. I use it for travelling, and checking out my MP3's on the move.

Sorry for babbling on, i hope this was of some use to you, any other questions dont hesitate to ask.

Oh and one more thing. You can pick up a minidisc recorder for the same price as an MP3 player (a good one) and i personally would go for the mini disc anyday, you can record from stereo's from radio, from almost anything with analog in/out or digital in/out.

Better used for recording Live. Also good for using in a Dj situation.
