Hello,

Sincere apologies if this had been covered before. Does anyone know of a "recipe", detailed from A to Z, on how to build a vocal booth ? Now, I will only be doing vocal overdubs to a backing track so no other instruments will be heard, just my voice. I tend to do my best late at night. The last thing I want to do is wake somebody up. I was looking at some "mail order" booths but these are crazy expensive!! My 2 options are either to move out or get a vocal booth and I'd prefer the latter ;) :D. Thank you for all your help.

Daniel

i'm currently building a vocal booth cause the quote i got for what i wanted from soundsuckers was 3500 (don't forget the shipping cost when you price these things)!!!!

i'm running about $350 in materials so far and a lot of that is caulk!

i'm not a carpenter and have never framed anything but what the hell. 3000 bucks is quite a motivation! i'll document the whole thing when i'm done.

attached is a picture of the frame. pretty easy stuff actually once you put your mind to it.

the trickiest part by far i think is the ventilation. the rest is wood, nails, drywall, insulation and caulk........and some resilient channel.

THANK YOU!!!! I saved the pict to my hard drive and will keep up with your progress. Please post more photos and info as you get along with your project.

Thanks again,

i got the outside drywall up this weekend and started the insulation last night. here's what it looks like right now. it's fun to hear how much quieter it gets inside the booth with each step. with just the frame, it wasn't very quiet, then the outside drywall, quieter, then the insulation, wow! can't wait to see what the inner drywall does.

i'll tell you what though, the insulation destroyed the bass resonance that was going on. i'm sure that will reappear once i put the inner drywall but damn does it sound good in there with the insulation exposed!

i digress. anyway, what kind of space do you have to work with?

Good to hear from you again. Before I go on can I just ask you to please upload a little bit smaller pictures of your booth ? It's just so big that it's hard to read the print and see the picture. I'd appreciate it. Also, it takes a lot of bandwith. Anyway, the space is pretty large but I just want to make an average vocal booth kinda like the smallest one from whisperroom. So what kind of sound proofing material do you use ? I was thinking putting the wood first then putting dry wall and then another wood piece. Would there be something else to put in there, between the two pieces of wood to cushion/mute the sound waves ?

i'm not doing any layering on the walls. we'll see if that's needed. i'm just using 5/8" drywall. once i get the inner wall up, i'll decide whether more treatment is needed for isolation.
