Hello, I am hoping to buy a Behringer UB1202 to use along with my PC. I have a normal Sounblaster soundcard and i am gonna be micing up amps and drums, and i want to know were i should plug everything into, so i can record from the mixer to my PC and get playback from my mixer again. Sorry if i dont make sence but im kinda new to this.

Thanks.

P.s Whats so good about recording with Pro Tools? Ive heard alot about it but it doesnt seem any different to any other software.

hmm what do you mean by playback with the mixer? do you mean you want the soundcard to send out a signal to your mixer so that your mixer can then send a signal to the speakers you may have? if so, just run a cable from the line out of your sound blaster to your mixer's input. I don't know if sound blaster has 1/4 inch outs or 1/8 minijacks so you may have to buy a converter, but no worries they are cheap. To hook the mixer up to your sound card for recording, run a cable from your mixer's out to the input on your sound card, again you may need a 1/4 to 1/8 converter, i am not sure.

As far as pro tools, i'm sure it is equally as good, if not better, than any of the other recording software packages out there. There is a poll in the computer and sound card forum and you may want o check out that lists what everybody is using as far as sound recording software. I think cool edit pro was in the lead, but this really means nothing. I think cool edit just may be one of the cheapest available as well as n track and whatnot. they all have similar features but have different layouts and diffrent ways of getting shit done. just pick one and learn to use it good. A buddy of mine has like sonar, cool edit, cubase and pro tools. I personally don't see the point in having all of that as you would have to learn to use each one...? wierd...

anywyas, my rant is complete.

If I understand correctly, you want to mic drums and amps, mix them, and record a single track into your software, but send that back to your mixer for playback purposes. I would advise against sending a single track into your computer if this is what you plan on doing, because odds are you won't get a great mix while tracking. If you mix before recording, you won't be able to do any touch-ups. I could be misunderstanding though, but I don't think a normal soundblaster car has the capabilities of multitrack recording. But again, I could be wrong....I'm still pretty new myself.

Sending the signal from your line out back to your mixer like minofifa said sounds like the only approach. I assume as did minofifa that this is to send the signal to speakers.

About Pro Tools....I played with it a little bit once, but not enough to know it well. It's got pretty much all the features any other software has, but for the price, it's probably not worth the investment for home recording. You can find many other decent programs (such as cool edit) with many features, and possibly many you'll never need....
