I don't ask this because of laziness, if I use the search engine, thousands of results appear, and none of them point me in the right direction. I just want a good DVD/CDR for my puter and also a good CDRW. How simple can this get?? Any model suggestions?

You mean two drives, right?

The Yamaha writers are pretty good for audio stuff. they're supposed to be better but I'm not sure why.

Plextor is good too, but almost any CDRW on the market will do you. The PlexWriter2410 is a nice one.

I personally use an LG GC something, a 24X writer, and have no complaints.

I believ Pioneer makes good DVD drives, too.

Maybe, but I'll never buy their trayless drives again. I owned both a trayless CD and DVD player from Pioneer and they both started to give me problems after some time.

You can't go wrong with Yamaha and Plextor. That's
what the pro's are using. I heared good things about Lite on.
Bang for the buck is their specialty. And TDK is just behind the first two by a little bit and targetted more on the consumers I think.

But don't take my word for it. Read the reviews. The bad ones
have trouble burning deep grooves which are a must for audio
burning ( not data ). They won't playback on all players or will not
play at all. Beware.

Yeah guys, I was referring to 2 drives. Thanks for the info, I´ll check up on that. By the way..what the heck is Ethernet and what is it good for?

Ethernet is a means for setting up a LAN (local area network). You usually need an ethernet pci card in your computer to use broadband internet connections - DSL/cable. In my box at home I've got two ethernet cards. One is for my cable internet connection, and the other is for transferring files between my box and my laptop.

I'll add my votes - for a DVD drive, the new Liteon is great. It's the only one (or at least was 2 months ago when I bought it) that has decent digital audio extraction speed. Good deal too.

For CDR drives, Plextor & TDK are probably the best. But there are other drives, including Liteon, that are quite good. I just bought a brand-x 32X CDR drive from MicroCenter for $29 (after rebate) and so far the thing is flawless. just make sure any CDR drive you buy has burn-proof, or something similar. Almost all of the new ones do.
