Signal Deterioration

I've always recorded direct as possible (habit from analog and cheap/noisey gear days) to get the best signal.

My question is:

When mixing in the box (Cubase 5 mixer) how does this effect the signal ?

Recorded track(s) > to > mixer stereo buss

as opposed to

Recorded track(s) > to "group channel" > to mixer stereo buss.

Is there much difference?

Do you find you use alot of group channels ? It is easier to make changes in volume and EQ with alot of backup vocals for instance.

I use Folders in Reaper, which is the same thing.

I use them for exactly the same reasons as you: applying EQ to a group of vocals, or controlling the overall level of a kit that has many tracks.
