I recorded some songs with my band using mostly just a boss br8 portastudio and some cheap dynamic knock-offs of sm7s and 58s. we used some POS noname old 4 track mixer from the 80s when we tracked drums. We also had a broken noname condensor mic that we used on snare because it sounded like a hiss and fart factory on everything else. Mixed mostly on an aiwa stereo and into a computer through a stock soundblaster. We borrowed all of the equipment and only had a vague idea of how to use it. Given the circumstances, It doesn't sound too bad:
