Signal Chain Help

I'm adding an aural exciter to my rack, and would like to know where in the signal chain to place it. As of now, I go into a pre amp and out to my AW16G. I've asked this question in the AW16G forum, and have not gotten any response, which leads me to believe that no one has any idea. I'm certain that someone here can help me with this. Oh, I'd say folks have an idea. I wouldn't use one at all but that's just me. You would use this like you would a compressor or EQ (or a paper weight). Patch it on either individual channel insert or the mains insert points.
 
The last thing you want to do is patch ANYTHING into the signal chain that doesn't need to be there.

The first and foremost rule is MINIMAL SIGNAL CHAIN. Any piece of gear in a chain will affect the sound, a lot of times, even when a unit is bypassed.... so if it isn't needed, keep it out of there.....
 
Have you thought of adding a patch bay to your rack? I have found that flexability is the key to being effecient. I TOTALLY agree with Blue Bear. The less in the signal chain, the better. By using a patch bay, you can use it for any channel in any sequence, and you can eliminate anything in the signal chain that doesn't need to be there. BUT, if I had to lock it in anywhere, I would probably make it the last thing in the chain before your AW16G.
 
Split the signal right befor the recorder, send one to the effect as a seperate track.

You would do this to smooth the effect out or have a real-time wet/dry mixer?
 
You get a wet/dry mix option, but the purpose was to keep the original clean while getting the effect into the recorder.

For that then you'd want to run the exciter a little hotter than normal. Only problem is that it eats another track. :( I think his recorder is just a "Do-it-all" box, so that may be a limitation.
 
Besides the whole 'minimalist' thing, another beni with printing effects is you get to mess with it in all sorts of sick ways in the mix later.:D :D
 
We did this with a really nice Lexicon on a floor tom on my band's first CD. Deep dark reverb for a BAM BAM BAM that sounded like it was backed by thunder... I liked it :D
