Shure SM87A?

I'm planning to buy the SM87A for live performance. I never tried this piece but to what I read this is great for vocals and an upgrade to 58s.

I'm just wondering how's the quality for studio. I have 58 but I don't like using for recording.

Please share your thought...thanks!
 
I have no experience with this mic, but looking at the response charts, the 87 will be a much brighter mic. Whether that's a good thing or not will depend on your voice.
It's a condenser so, unlike the 58, it will require phantom power.
