Hello there people of Home Recording, I have a question about the Shure SM58, it seems that after I hooked the microphone up my Toneport UX1 and then to my computer, without noise gating it, it will give me lots of feedback! I wonder if that is not supposed to be so or what?

That is likely not the 58 giving you problems. Sounds like you are monitoring through speakers, or you are having some type of 'feedback' from your source (the mic) back through whatever you are monitoring from.

More details on your setup might help. :)

Welcome to the forum Darren!

:D

Yeah. You can practically shove an SM58 into an onstage monitor without feed back so I'd say it's more likely you have something faulty in your signal routing causing electronic feedback.

Hmmm...I guess there's one other option--there are a lot of counterfeit SM58s around and some of them are really pretty poor at feedback rejection. However, if you know the source of your mic, back to checking your routing.

Alright, so here's what worked for me ( to get the natural and awesome sound I heard from youtube videos ). I removed all the checkboxes and sound stuff ( effects etc ) and clicked on the "Boost Mic" instead of using the compressor from GearBox. Solved my problem! Thanks for your help guys.
