I have a shure sm58. Do I need to buy a pop filter for it? I heard that it has one inbuilt. How effective is the inbuilt one? Thanks alot.

i would suggest it when recording vocals, the internal screen isn't good enough for studio use, but then again no mic's internal screen is. (side note: most people including people on this bbs will tell you a 58 is no good for vocals. if it sounds good for the person you're recording, though, go for it! oh yeah, and i saw megadeth recording with beta 58 for vocals, and dave mustaine used a pop filter)

Go for a popscreen, and use the sm58 all you want. The sm58 gives a good livefeeling to the recordings and anyone that knows how to operate an eq, should get along with it just fine.
