Shure SM27 or Rode NT2 A?

Hi guys,

I'm getting a new condenser microphone around 200 pounds. I'm between the Shure SM27 or the Rode NT2 A. I've heard that the shure its not ideally for vocals but instruments but the Rode sounds quite unnatural to me.Suggestions?

We use the Rode at my friend's house all the time for recording vocals. Nice clean dependable mic - it's a little bright compared to his AKG XLS but it's also much cheaper. I use a Sputnik (love it) and have retired my NTK (all vocal in my sig recorded with this). Looking to get an XLS so we have same vocal mic at both houses.

I use various Rode mics, NT1000, NT2 & NT1 (very early models) for vocal all the time and they sound very natural to me? Unnatural due to the room its in?

Alan.

I used to own the Rode NT2-A, it's not a bad mic actually for the money, I found it sounded best for voiceover work, but can be a little bright if you are not careful too, it has a very extended hi-fi sounding top end and lots of air, and very low self noise.

Have never heard the SM27 so can't comment.
