I have a new Korg D1600 and a new Shure KSM44 mic. I already had a Shure beta57 and a Beyer Dynamic vocal mic. I am brand new to recording and have a question re: input levels on the Korg.

The manual states that I should, using the meter, adjust the input level just under the peak value. The odd thing is....the volume doesn't seem to get apprciably louder until the trim knob is almost at max when there is a big jump in volume. I thought perhaps it was the new mic but it is the same for all 3 mics I have.

What I have done is just arbitrarily set the trim knob to just a little past mid way and the sound is fine. I am wondering though....am I doing something wrong here? Why would the voulme seem to barely increse until a huge peak at almost highest end??? Cannot find in the manual (yet...) an answer.

Anyone out there have a Korg D1600 with similar problem???
