Shoot...I just ordered this after much research. Thoughts, comments, ideas. Any first hand use?

Darn it, oh well, too late now, might as well record sumthin'.....crap!

EXCUSE ME? Are you trying to drop a negative on the Shure KSM27? I find it to be a VERY GOOD mic with a nice warm sound. A few of my fellow voice-over buddies use it in their own studios. I think it's money well spent man. Good buy!

Got one. Love it on almost any voice, very smooth response.

Pete

Don't scare me! haha...I want this to be my main mic along with my Shure SM58 which has fucking NEVER let me down yet.

I am still kinda small time with all this, I make sure what I have is solid and I know how to use my stuff to its max. If you read my other posts like in the Newbie section--you'll get a better backround on me.

I have one and I love it. Considering there's so much competition in that price range (New), it's safe to say you didn't make a bad purchase, but no one can say if it'll meet your requirements other than you after using it.

I have one don't know if i'd describe it as warm though.

Good mic never the less.

I would definitely describe the sound as warm, perhaps even a bit too warm for certain applications. My band recently did a live radio spot and the studio used two of these as overheads and I was impressed with the sound, very warm and roomy. Overall I liked the sound and it seems like a great deal for the price. If you've only used the sm-58 I'm sure you'll see a good step up in quality for vocals and perhaps other applications. Nice buy!

I bought the KSM32 years ago when it first came out. A couple of engineers i really respect said they loved it.

I think I've used it about three times in four years. It's not that it's a bad mic, it's just kind of.... boring.

I wasn't saying it was bad, I was making an observation on the writers beginning phrase of "Shoot..." Hell, some of my best friends are...um....use Shure mics.... SM7 is one of my favs

Radiohead uses the KSM27 as overheads on the drum kit in the live set-up. I know other bands do too, but this is one I am most familiar with. They sound awesome in the house at the shows.

I have also used the 27 on acoustic guitar, mandolin, hand drums, voice, electric guitar, kick drum, piano and many more. I like the way it sounds on pretty much anything.

And no, this isn't just a plug because I work at Shure. I truly like that microphone.

It also makes an excellent canine vocal mic.

If I had my pic of drum overheads I would probably reach first for either a pair of AKG C414s or a pair of KSM27/32/44s, if I had them. I use a pair of AKG C1000s for overheads which I've been happy with.

I forgot to mention that I have recorded a dog with the 27 as well.

I do like the C1000s as overheads. I have also used the Rode NT5's and been pleased with what came out of that. Not the greatest high-end in those, but for what I was doing they worked great as overheads.

You work at Shure? That kicks ass! Hey, do you know the Green Bullet product manager? I love that mic

The KSM 27 is a pretty decent mic for the money. It's strong point is its build quality. It will last a long time. I used to have a few in my live mic packs. I would not however describe the sound as "warm" like mentioned above. i have found that you have to be careful with high frequency content because the KSM 27 tends to get very strident in the higher frequencies pretty easily. This does not make it a bad mic, just something to be aware of.

Yes, I work at Shure in the Product Development Division (As does RAK). As for the Green Bullet Product manager..hmmm, I am not sure about him, as this product was introduced in the 50s. I will ask around and see if he/she is still kicking, but I highly doubt it. It is an awesome mic though.
