I know this is an old thread, but since I have a Shure BG1.0 as well, I thought I would just mention that (like many Shure mics) the impedance of the Mic can be changed from low to high:
Steps:
1) Remove plug element by turning slotted setscrew in (CounterClockWise). Use long-nosed pliers, gently pull element from case being careful not to break wires.
2) Disconnect 2 terminal impedance selection socket from rear of element by pulling it off pin.
3) Reconnect impedance selection socket so that pin 3 of plug element is now connected to blue (high impedance) lead.
Note: Microphone is shipped set for low-impedance, but since they are only available as used (ebay, tag sales, etc), the setting may already have been changed...so it is worth /checking it's setting if you are not getting the expected behavior.
The BG1.0 was my first mic and I have found it to work quite well and comparable to other basic dynamic mics. Coupled with the inexpensive TubeMP, it works well in most configurations. Of course, it is no SM57/58 but the fact that the cartridges are the same (at least at the time the BG1.0 was manufactured) is indicative of a decent (if beginner) level of quality... I mean it is a Shure after all.
Again, definitely not a top-end mic, but like one poster commented...every decent/basic Mic can find a use if you are willing to experiment...Even if that use is a bottom-of-the-gig-bag emergency backup mic. Or hey, sing your last song on it and then give it to that hot groupie in the front row that has been eyeing you all night... lol!
Cheers,
