Shure Beta52 Drum Mic Kit

I found this drum mic kit at a local pawnshop, it looks like brand new.

For those that don't feel like clicking, it is 4 SM57s, one Beta 52, drum mounts and case. They will take $250 for it. Another pawnshop down the road has an Electro-Voice - ND868 Kick Drum Mic for $89.

Should I get the shure kit, or just the EV? I have 2 SM57s now, but they are so useful I don't think you can really have too many. How does the beta 52 sound on kick drums? the EV?

Holy cow! Get the sure kit. I love my B52s, and I agree, you can't have too many 57s either. I have eight.
Those 52s go for $189 new....
 
Maybe you could offer them 200-225.....see what they say.

it depends on the state of the mics...but 250 sound slike a good deal. 4 used 57's at $50 each and a 52 at $50 is a hell of a good deal. Make sure it's Beta and not a PG version...the Beta's are quality, but IMO the PG's aren't worth the trounle.

The Beta 52 is a decent mic. I personally liked the sound of an AKG D112 better, but not by much, If I could snag that mic kit personally, I would for sure! The 57's alone are worth it if they're all in good solid working condition as they are invaluable workhorse mics.

I love my beta 52...I got it on ebay for $115 and free shipping. I say for $250...if its in good shape, get it. Since this will give you a total of 6 sm57's, keep the best 4 for yourself, and put the rest up for sale in the free ads forum. You should be able to get $65, give or take a little, each for them. Anyway...you could basically get 2 more 57's and a beta 52 for around $120. I say its a no brainer!!! then even take the money from the 57's you sold and go back and get the EV too...

I like the 52 over the 112. To me it has more whollop.
 
one other thing...you said the Shure kit has 4 57's...is that correct? Because the link you posted has only 3. If there is actually 4 then that package would be worth more than the one in the link.

Yeah the Shure kit is definitely 3 57s not 4. Still a pretty good deal--you get 3 drum mic clips in the deal too.
 
My bad, I must have fumble fingered it, it was 3 SM57s, and the drum mic was definitely a Beta 52, not a PG. They looked to be in almost new shape, obviously you can't tell much by looks only, but I always be sure to get the pawn shop guys to at least give me a 24 hour return gaurantee, and make them write it on the receipt as part of the deal. Sometimes they offer longer, so first I ask, but I always get at least 24 hours. From what you guys are telling me I am going to jump on it. I just hope it is still there tomorrow at lunch time...which is the soonest I can get there.

I would!...I bought that same kit NEW a while back.For that price...that's a damn good deal as long as everything's in good shape!

You are saving about £50 by getting the Drum pack. And thats saying the drum mounters are free. SO not a bad deal all in all. But if its second hand then I would pay about half that for the pack.
 
I think I paid $399 for that package new a few years ago at a big chain store. I was also buying something much more expensive, so I think they discounted it a bit. If they're in good shape, then that's a good deal.

I recently go to use both the 52 and the D112 on a session. We used them about the same amount, on different songs. The difference between the two is pretty striking. The 52 is much more scooped out in the mids. I find this usually means less EQ tweaking in mixing, especially when the music has a lot of midrange content, such as distorted guitars. Just my observations.

I've also use the EV ND whatever-number kick mic. It was closer to the D112 than the 52. It's in the same league.
