A friend of mine gave me a Shure Beta 58 XLR mic, I cannot find ANY info online about it, only the 58A seems to exist, is it discontinued and is there anywhere I can get a datasheet?

Based on the 58A I'm guessing the 58 doesn't require phantom power so will it work with a standard USB interface such as the Behringer U-Phoria UM2?

Is there a cheaper way to use the mic without an interface?

And is there a way to test the mic before purchasing the interface?

I'm to the whole audio thingy and don't know much.

Here is a photo of the mic:

Yup. Probably the cheapest way you'll do it, but if you can push the budget a bit, you'll be better off with an interface with two mic inputs. The U-Phoria series does provide phantom power if you do want a condenser mic at some point in time.

Not that would be worthwhile and provide functions that an interface does.
