i hear you on the inadequate thing...

i'm too lazy to take a pic, but my rack contains an MPA gold, RNC, UREI 530, a power conditioner, a patchbay, and has my onyx 1640 on top of it

Nice Rack Massive!! That API 5500 looks tight with those blue lights:cool:. Was that varible-mu worth the cost?Why did you pick the aphex 320a?
 
The Aphex 320A is a great box for invisible gain riding. I own one that I had Jim Williams modify, and it's almost kind of magical how you can't hear what it is doing.

Massive, I notice you have an Ibis. Do you think the Ibis is a mastering only type eq or would it also be a good mixing eq? In other words, I assume it is transparent, but will it also do colors and provide some variety?

(A) I love the blue lights... Few can do it like API. :cool:
(B) The Vari-Mu was worth every penny and then some - It's the mastering version (stepped switches, etc.) and I had a HPF installed on the side-chain (which personally, I think should be a stock thing - I've never turned it off and I have no plans to).
(C) The 320A... Got it on a whim. I hate to say I really don't have much of a use for it. The 320A, along with the 722 Dominator II and a few other things are currently UP FOR GRABS if anyone is interested...

IMO/E, the Ibis is an "everything" EQ - *and* it's wonderful at it. It's not a "jack of all trades / master of none" thing - It's a master of all... Except notch filtering (which I'd rather do digitally anyway most times) but I digress.

Granted, when I'm looking for "color" right off the bat, the API is there. Much more "plain and simple" as a program EQ. But I could get by without it. Not the case with the Ibis... The whole "Crane chain" for that matter.
 
NL5, why do you have a Rumour alongside the KSP8? I sold my Rumour and Mangler once I got the KSP8, just seemed like I didn't need them what with all the power of the KSP8.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's an old photo. I had just gotten the KSP8 (since I liked the Rumour so much). I sold the Rumour and got a Lexicon 960L to compliment the KSP8, right after that pic was taken........... :D
