I am borrowing a Akg B-ULS and I love the sound. Since the mic is used, I can buy it at a fair price. I have not used the new B-XLS but I know of its new features and that it is transformersless compared to the B-ULS. I need your opinions on whether you think I should buy the B-ULS discounted or pay an extra $300.00 for the new B-XLS? Has anybody compared both? Does the B-XLS sound better since it is transformerless?

Any opinions will be appreciated

My opinion is that they are both great mics. If you like the B-ULS version, and the price is less, why would you pay more money for a mic you haven't used? I use the C414B-ULS for lots of stuff. -Richie

The only reason I ask is because I want to know if the changes with the B-XLS is an improvement on the mic and whether it is worth investing in.

Yes, I think XLS is the better mic of the 2, but that's just an opinion, for what it's worth. As I said, they are both great mics.-Richie

I would try the new one out if you can before you decide. If you like the new one, I would get that:) It could be pretty difficult in the future if you were to want to get a second ULS and have it pretty closely matched. A newer XLS would be much easier.

I guess you're right. It's probably better getting the new XLS since I don't know how much abuse this mic has taken. You make a good point about if I want to get a second mic and getting them closely matched.
