Hey Wilks....I've known 3 or 4 people who looked into it but in the long run decided to not go that route. I'm sure if you look into it in depth you will come to the same conclusion. I'll ask them what their deciding facts where and get back to you.

I have a sputnik. Personally, I love it... but like all the chinese made mics its kinda hyped in the high end.

As far as the studiolive I don't think I would. Personally I prefer the mackie. I was trying to decide between the studiolive and onyx. I went with the onyx because it sounded nicer and had enough aux's for me. Sure built-in fx would be great but I'm not so sure about how long it'll last and repairs might be hard to come by. I've enjoyed the onyx and been able to do 2 major repairs on it myself and a third one was relatively inexpensive at a shop.

Of course the repairs only occurred because of playing in crowded small bars with no extra space for a large mixing board. So, they've been shorted because of beer kind of repairs.

But aren't you still limited to 2 tracks ultimately?

thanks guys i actually changed my mind looking into tascam md 3200 looks great any info on that ? is it compatible with pro tools m-powered

I believe both the onyx boards and the studiolive boards aren't limited on the digital side (aside from their lack of ADAT, or other expansion slots). I'm able to record 16 invididual tracks on my onyx via firewire or out of the board via DB25. I believe the studiolive is similar except I think it also has SPDIF.

The mackie only has 2 channels out but I think the studiolive has more. Not sure exactly how many, though.

as far as the dm-3200 sometimes I think I should have gone that route. It seems like a nice set up. This console can double as a control surface as well. I've heard the preamps are kind of stale in it, though. But I've also heard it has routing out the wazoo.

good stuff yeah md 3200 is some nice stuff man i like alot lol
