there's the catch, my computer IS working and IS stable, but there's a friend of mine who would definitely buy the card from me if i took it off.

i'm just waiting till i get worldwide famous so i can sell anything that came into touch with me on ebay. i'll be selling my own poop for hundreds of dollars. i won't even have a toilet at home. :D

i record everything i do through an sblive value. of course its just my own demos and crap. i havent had any problems, and i keep it because i can load soundfonts in the system, and create drums in guitar pro with it

also, im about to buy a 30 bucks add-on so i can record via spdif in with my j-station.

do those sound bad? i personally dont think so, but hey the live card is going for i think about 4 bucks on ebay.

No, they don't sound bad. Not bad at all! :)

It's not just the quality of the card, it's the drivers, latency, bundled software, the 48kHz lock with ASIO, and so on (you can read this tread). And I still can hear a great difference between my old SB Audigy and my new Inca88. The Inca88 is a great card for the price, it's perhaps not the best, but it's damn better than the Live/Audigy. :)

...Indeed !! I agree without even own it. :)

Ahh! Now I see... and here you had me thinking you used an Audigy... ;)

I really like my audigy Platinum 2. I had an M-Audio Delta 66 for about a week. Except for the multiple tracks (my audigy can still do 2 tracks), there was no sound deference between the two. I would record a guitar riff using each card and when I was done, I could not tell which on was which. So...I returned the Delta 66 and I am sticking with my audigy.

And my question to that would be: What do you use for monitoring? ;)

Just wait. When the Audigy 2 has given you a hard time (it's gonna come), you want the Delta back. It's just a better card IMHO.

...That's right. I'm trying not to be sceptical, but I do use SB cards and Delta 66. 70% of what I do, is done with SB Live!. Use the delta only for serious audio stuff. Why ? Cause SB works better for MIDI stuff, and Delta works better for audio stuff... I do alot MIDI stuff (which delta seems don't support that musch as SB), sequencing etc. So I often disable the delta. But when it comes to do audio thing... Delta rules the SB. If you don't hear the difference, then you'll need a better monitor.... (or ears :D... kiddin').

No! I use mine(audigy platinum) with a 2496, I use it primarily for soundfonts and digital input. it works ok for me but sometimes is a big hassle. My 2 cents!

We use Livesynth for Soundfonts now, you see... ;)

i've just realized that i do use the sblive for fruity loops. if i use the 2496 (emulated), it stutters even when i set latency to maximum.

Is it dropping out if so do this. good fix for dropout issues

I now found the info in Sonar 2´s ReadMe file:

"New AUD.INI Variables for Engine Tweaking

SONAR 2 includes several new AUD.INI variables for tweaking the audio engine. The default values yield the same engine behavior as SONAR 1.3.1. The variables are all in the [Wave] section, and are as follows:

StopIfStarved=<0 or 1> (default=1)

Determines whether the audio engine should completely shut-down and put up a "dropout" indicator if the audio output queue becomes empty. Note that a dropout will still occur if the input queue becomes empty, or if other exceptional MIDI or disk I/O starvation scenarios occur. Setting this value to 0 yields engine behavior where the audio never will never stop during input monitor, but may click or pop instead."

Not really clear on what it means but I think maybe that if you hear clicks and pops with the setting to 0 those are not recorded but only playbacked (?).

There are some other tweaks that I haven´t tried yet. (Don´t need it really ´cause I now have 5ms rock solid latency with my SBLive 5.1 and kx drivers using ASIO in Sonar, what a bliss

Do we really need to read this 10 times before we get it?

Hey guys,

I'm becoming frustrated with my Creative SB Live also. It was preinstalled on my new Dell. For some reason, I can't install Audio HQ. I was told that this appplication is necessary to control effects such as reverb when using the card's sounds for midi tracks in Home Studio 2002. Creative won't offer tech support because the card is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacture) made by Dell. And Dell doesn't have a clue about Audio HQ. Can anyone suggest another card for under or around $200 that works well with Cakewalk and Windows XP? Any thoughts on the Audio HQ issue? All I want to do at this point is add reverb to a midi track bass line!
