New (but discontinued) Akai DPS 12 or a used Roland VS880 EX
The Akai has no built in FX but has a 30 gig hard drive.
The used Roland only has a 1 gig hard drive but will come with an additional 6GB external hard drive and does have internal FX. The new Akai is 500 bucks and the used Roland around 400. Any advice appreciated.

I wouldn't get either...........

One of my close friends is having a nightmare of a time with his DPS12 (it stays in the shop).

I might be mistaken, but I think that the Roland uses a certain compressor format to all of its audio (so that it can fit on its hard drive).

I would suggest that you upgrade your comp.

But if you need portabilty, and you have to choose one of the two pieces, I would lean towards the Roland.

Well, I love the roland products, but dont get something that small, get something you can live with 5 years down the road.
