Hello everybody. I'm new to the forum and have a question. For several years I've been recording on a Roland VS-840GX with pretty good results (once past the learning curve). Now, I have an opportunity to pick up a mint (used maybe twice and put back in the box) Yamaha AW4416 in a trade that will mean I have about $300 in it. My question is, will I be happy with the AW4416 once I get over the shock of having to learn a new machine ?

Thanks.

Are the features it has a big enough jump over what you have to justify spending the $300?
Are you dissatisfied with the recordings you are making now and does the Yamaha definitely seem capable of fixing the things you are dissatisfied with?
Can that $300 be spent better on something else (acoustic treatment, monitoring chain, external processors) that will improve your sound better than the new recorder?
Can you afford the $300 hit if it turns out that you just don't like the thing?

You ought to be able to answer these questions for yourself, and the answers you give should be a lot more helpful than some random forum member's entirely subjective opinions that aren't related in any way to your personal recording experience level.

But then, that's just my entirely subjective opinion, and I'm just some forum member.
