anybody is welcome to listen to the short clip. 'would appreciate any feedback. Im just an old bass player and did all the parts myself so it aint "Yes" playing. It's just a new hobby and I need to know if I`m on the right track using the software and mixing it all down.

Toki,

Nice up-tempo (smooth jazz) tune. I think you did a find job recording...

The bass sound is really good....also the durms sound good, but I'm not sure they capture the right tempo-mood...I would try and make them less busy.

Plenty of keys in there, but I would suggest less of them and let the bass guitar drive the song.

Well done,

/dmm

thank you very much, and its most appreciated.
I agree totally, too much keys, and that snipping high hat is like a cheese grater on the ear. The primary drum rythymn was canned session drummer, I punched out a few fills and accents, would be easier with a lil midi pad set. And I`m not a keyboardist, i can just get around a little to show a real one what im after. I was more trying to get the tune down so i wouldnt have to carry it around in the head, and... learn to use Sonar and wave editors to mix and master this new DAW way. Never did this before by myself.

I`ll have some more stuff stuck up there over time but with 56k its slow. I stuck a clip up to save time. I appreciate any reflections you may have.

Pretty decent sounds! I really liked the piano and bass. Everything else was just too busy. Let the tune breath. Not every player needs to be a star.

Sounds good,especially the bass.
How did you record it,(the bass I mean?)
I'd say your definitly on the right track!

If I was to offer any suggestions, they would be,lose the horns, those and the drum rolls are the only thing that sound electronic.
Mabey a different horn?
Just my humble opinion!:D

Sounds just like the synth horns from a Boss Dr.Rythym I had.
Is it a Roland set?

The rest sounds really good.

It ain't Yes,(yet),but well on the way!:D

I sincerely appreciate your opinion.
'twas a blend of xg slap2 and a background touch of xg acoustic to keep it oily, compressed after the blend to audio. The horns were indeed rolands, I blended a baritone sax real faint to try to put phat on them but they still tin out. I actually can fatten the gm horn section better but they don`t have the clarity. I`ll probly use soundfonts next time. Drums a little too busy, yes, hehe I aint a drummer yet. It was really fun doing the whole piece. Since its just a hobby it`ll sorta do till I get better. If I can just bring a smile or a buzz on somebody, im happy.
thank you man!

Well........the question was "Are you on the right path?" and I'd say the answer is a big rousing YES! I'm not gonna say anything about the tune 'cause it's obviously a starting point in your recording learning curve, but it does sound pretty good right off the bat. So I don't think you need to do anything different....just perfect what you're doing.

This is nice Toki. The bass of course I like, but the keys are cool and I like the feel. The drums are too fakey and busy for me, but I guess you already heard that. Keep it up, this is going somewhere good :D
