Bring Back Transfat!
My studio is a whopping 12'X12'. I'm thinking 60watts per channel should get me where I need to be with a rack amp. I'm looking at used stuff based on price. Any suggestions?
I'm accepting donations of used monitors too. I can provide heat and good company! :p

id say the halfer amps are all great value for money for what you get not sure if the model im thinking of is a halfer 1000 or a larger one in their range but iam sure their amps wont dissapoint

Hafler TA1100....nice amp for the price....usually goes for $199.....

Samson Servo amps are decent enuff for home use and are pretty inexpensive.....

I agree with the TA1100 for a budget priced/good quality amp. If you have the money you can get that as well as a pair of Hafler M5 monitors (compared favorably to NS10's, if you like their sound) for $379 @ MF.

I brought home a pair of those M5's when I bought my TA1100 amp (package was $299)....they didnt have a hint of low end....they were ok, but without a sub, useless....good news is they gave me back $150 for them so i came out with the amp for $150....thanks GC....

btw, before i brought home my Proto J's I was listening to them with a little Samson Servo amp and it sounded pretty decent....too loud in the store to see if it was as quiet and clean as the Hafler, but it sounded pretty good.......

Monitor Amp

If you're shopping used, check out the hi-fi listings as well. Parasound amps can be had at reasonable prices, and are a cut above the small PA amps marketed as reference amps by music stores. I use a HCA-1000 to power a pair of Westlake BBSM-6 mid-fields, 200W/ch., 2RU, and no fan. The unbalanced input is the only strike against, the sound is excellent for $300. Listening to my old Carver on the same speakers is a harsh, night and day difference. They make smaller models including the HCA-600 and HCA-750 that you could find for less power and money. HTH
