I have a pretty simple question.

I bought a shock mount for a Rode NT1 mic and it came with two elastic bands. I have no idea what they are for. The mount works perfect without them, holds the mic very firmly. They are two different lengths.

Can anybody help me with this?

Should've also come with some sort of "cage" with little hooks. You are supposed to string those elastic bands around with the hooks in a certain pattern (depends on the shockmount). This basically will, if it is done correctly, be a mounting device that "suspends" your microphone so that any bumps to the mic stand or someone dropping their bowling ball on the floor next door won't cause a noticeable sound picked up my the mic through vibration.

Damn, someone give me extra points for that long-assed run-on sentence.

Aha!

I see it now. It already had two bands on the mount. It just had two extra for some reason. I thought I was supposed to hook all four bands on somehow. He he.

DOH!!!

Hmmm... I thought the definition of a shock mount was two guys on their way to a fancy dress ball, dressed in mare's suit, that inadvertantly wandered into an equine stud farm during mating season! ;)

I'd bet if you look closely you will see that Rode does what I've heard hardly no one else does. It's probably spare bands for replacement. I think I read that somewhere but I have no first hand experience with their mount only Audio Technica's mount here with my 4033 pair. I've been looking hard at the Rodes here though.

Those bands could also be intended as a retention for the shockmount in the mic clip... stretching around both so that the shockmount can't slip out in an awkwardly positioned stand/mic clip.

;)

Just a thought.

I think it's for flossing your teeth so you look bettaahhh when you record with your shiny new Rode!

I own that mount, and yeah, Rode supplies replacement bands. Cool, huh?- Richie
