Shipping a heavy keyboard properly!

I have a Yamaha EX5 I have been looking to get rid of (I have a classified ad on this board and craigslist right now) I am considering posting it on ebay but am really hesitant about dealing with shipping and dont want to sell someone a damaged board.

It is a Yamaha EX5, 76 key, must weigh 50 or 60 lbs. I was thinking my only option could be lots and lots of bubble wrap around the keyboard, inside a box, wrap that box in more bubble wrap, put it inside ANOTHER box, fill it with packing peanuts and off it goes?

With insurance do you think this would be sufficient?
Let me know of your experience (and horror stories :eek: )

Take your keyboard, when you are ready to ship to someone, to a UPS/FED-X shipping station. I don't know where you live but I have a shipping office about ten minutes from my crib. I always bring them BOXES/packing/pop-corn plastic, etc., from items I buy. They are HAPPY to get the recycle and I would trust them to PACK THE ITEM SAFELY.

You need to insure you keyboard for the value/sale price. You get an automatice 100 insurance coverage for regular shipping. If you need more, you pay more. That's the way the world is in shipping.

I have noted how my vendors pack things. I once ordered two bags of "gravel" for my yard--each bag weighed in at 25 pounds. Would you believe that the vendor used AIR FILLED PLASTIC to protect GRAVEL? Man, strange world.

Check out your nearest shipping station when you are ready to deal your keyboard.

I had a very bad experience with shipping a keyboard from the UPS store. The momo who packaged it did not do a good job and it was damaged in shipping. Dealing with UPS after that was a nightmare.
The ONLY way I would ever ship or have shipped a keyboard to me is in an ATA case.
 
:cool: I have to admit that the last couple of non-electronic packages I got from UPS looked like they were used to play kick-ball. But, the package had an inner box well insulated against dumb kickers of boxes.

The PAK store I deal with seems to have friendly and responsible folks. Maybe FED-EX is better? More expensive? Then, there is the PO which I seldom use for anything but letters.

You can buy the foam and boxes and air-filled plastic and pack it yourself; just be sure to charge enough to cover your costs.

I put the FOONMAN curse on those who kick en route packages.
