Setting up new home studio...need suggestions

Hello, I am new to this board and did some reading around to try to get ideas and saw everybody here was very helpful. I am currently in the process of upgrading the equipment I have now. I have $2000 to upgrade.

The type of music I record is hip hop, sometimes guitar.

I currently have an m-audio mobile pre, an audio techinca at2020. So, any suggestions would be helpful. I definitely need new monitors, cause I don't have any now.

If you have a dedicated place that's set up for recording/mixing...I'd say treat your room first. That made the biggest difference in my mixes and that includes monitors.
BTW...I use the Adam A7 monitors and like em just fine.

I do have a dedicated spot and have it lined up with moving blankets. I haven't done anything serious yet because I'm leasing this place, so until I get my own home I probably wont seriously treat a certain room.

I'll look into those monitors though.

cant really go wrong with krk monitors
