Hello All:
I have a small studio in my home, eqipment is as follows:
TasCam 388 Studio B
Digitech DSP-16 Effects Proccesor
Yamaha QY-10 Music Sequencer
Boss DR-660 Drum Machine
Roland GR-33
Digitech RP-12 Foot Controller and Pre Amp
Kawai GB-2 Session Trainer
Fender Strat Ultra
Fender Twin Reverb tube
Ernie Ball Volume Pedal

I just got the GR-33 and was wondering what is the best way for me to incorporate it into this set up. Had this stuff for a while and finally deceided to hook everything up, got everything hooked up and working properly just wondering about the GR-33 also have 3 DOD Stagehand Direct Box's. Any help in this area will be appreciated.

Spinsterwun, The GR-33 is the guitar synth -- you plug in a guitar equipped with the GK-2A divided pickup (or whatever it's called, going off of memory here) and your guitar doubles as a MIDI controller.

StratPlayer, looks like you can use the QY-10 to record the MIDI information that the GR-33 can output from your guitar/controller. You can use the recorded sequence to trigger the QY-10's onboard sounds, or those on the GR-33 via its MIDI out (it has one, I'm assuming, as well as a MIDI In). You could also use the MIDI out of the GR-33 or the QY-10 to trigger the drum machine and to change patches on the DSP-16 and the RP-12 (and maybe effect some paramters in real time? - I'm not familiar with the feature sets on these boxes). I think that pretty much covers it out of the list of stuff you displayed.

Setting Up

Hello Al:

Thanks for all your input, I will try what you suggest and see how it goes. I will keep you posted on how everything turns out. Thanks again.

I have a GR09 (an earlier version of the GR33). If I were you, I would use the guitar as a MIDI controller and record the MIDI perforamnce in the Yamaha sequencer. You can then use the sequencer to trigger sound from the GR33 (or any other MIDI device).

The advantage to recording the MIDI (vs. the analog sound) is that you can change the tones during mixdown.

However - one small warning, some MIDI devices do not recognize a MIDI signal from a slid up the guitar. As an example - if you play a C on the 3rd fret of the A string, and then slide to A# to B - some synth modules will track this as 3 seperate steps, rather than a slide. Logically, a piano has distinct tones (you can't "slide" on a piano) - so a piano tone on a module can't slide.

That is an issue with my GR09 possibly it has been corrected with the GR33.

Sliding

Mike:
So far with the GR33 that is not a problem, it tracks slides great, fun toy, can do a lot with this unit. I have everything hooked up now and all is well, just sold my pool table and now I can move all this gear into a much bigger room, painting the room now. Thanks all for the tips and good advice.
