Setlist for a Wedding, Any More Songsuggestions?

I like the Beatles suggestion. Julia would sound really cool solo fingerstyle as would Yesterday. I don't know about Honey Pie though :) that seemed a bit of weird suggestion to me.

Whenever I do my solo arr of Honey Pie nobody even knows it's a Beatles tune. Well, rarely. With its swing rhythm, they almost always think it's a popular song from the 1920's or 30's. I thought Timmerman said he was doing instrumentals, so if anybody at the reception even knows the words to Honey Pie I'd be surprised. And it makes a nice contrast to the sentimental ballads if you're doing a Beatles set, which is how I prefer to play them, myself. Wouldn't play it while the bride's walking down the aisle, but at the reception it's the kind of tune that goes over pretty well.

How's your fingerstyle technique?
Pachebel's Canon in D
Bach's Air on G
You can get arrangements from OLGA
Also
Classical Gas - Mason Williams
Bron Y Aur - Led Zep

Anything from "The Wedding Singer" :D

Unchained Melody...

predates the Righteous Brothers by 10 years. My first wife & I played that at a wedding. The sheet music was copyrighted 1955. It was written by Alex North and Hy Zaret, and was a big hit for Al Hibbler (released April 9, 1955). It hit #3 in the charts. For what it's worth, the Righteous Brothers' version (1965) topped out at #4. Great song writing.

What about "American Pie"?, I know, I know, not a Beatles tune, but I think I will do this one as well, as it is a great, well-known melody.

I do like all the suggestions, and really there is sooo much, so I will try a lot of these ideas, and for after the wedding I should have tons and tons of things to play for upcoming occassions................

Clothes and Haircut................

Okay now that we have the songs, what about the clothes and haircut?

Remember I do not want to make too much of an impression on the bride :D Oh yeah she is nice, I have met her, do not know her but just met her and asked her about songs and other issues................no not those ones eh :D ;)

Eddie :)

How about the wedding classic "Better Off Without A Wife" by Tom Waits?

hahaha, there's nothing that says "congratulations on your union" better than a song that's preceeded by a monologue detailing taking yourself on a date and subsequently taking advantage of yourself, all done in Tom's unique vocal styling. They'll really appreciate it :-D

For Mod Rod, I'd go "Young Turks", "Do You Think I'm Sexy", or "Hot Legs", or maybe "Reason to Believe".

Otherwise:

"When Did You Stop Loving Me, When Did I Stop Loving You", Marvin Gaye

"Can't Stand Losing You", Police

"Go Your Own Way", Fleetwood Mac

or if you really want the father of the bride to have a coronary:

"Long View", Green Day :D

Yep all very good ideas guys,

Hey after Friday I seriously need to adress my practise habits:

Less studying and creating own compostions and more songs which ANYONE will know...............

Great thing is though, going through those songs I can come up with so many variations to play them, and this is just because I practise all the time, but perhaps I should play more songs in future.......................... ;)

Eddie :)

More Van Morrison!!

Tupelo Honey
Sweet Thing
Into the Mystic
Crazy Love
The Way Young Lovers Do

Heroine by the Velvet Underground or Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division.

"The End" - The Doors

It's the perfect wedding song.
