So, I have no external midi modules and I am trying to get the session drummer to drive an internal DXi synth.

I have had some luck, but it always requires all kinds of goofing around. Does anyone have (or can point me to) a step by step for setting up session drummer with the Cyclone or the DX-008?

Sonar 2 Power touches on it, as does the Sonar Manual that came with the software, but I have yet to find a comprehensive discussion/explanation of this.

Hey jdier! it´s easy...

1. Run SONAR! (ha)
2.You just need two tracks One Audio and One Midi
3.In the Audio track in the fx box (below output or next to it) Click Right Button of the mouse, and choose Dxi Synth, DR-008 DXi2.
4. Load a kit.
5. At this point you have the Audio configured (i mean the DR-008) If you want to add some reverb, or some comp, make at your own risk!..:D

6.In the other track, the midi track, you have to first setup the Output. After you do the explained items above, you will find something like : Out:4-Dxi-DR-008...SELECT IT!!!
7. Now in the fx box. Midi Effects-Cakewalk Fx-Session Drummer.
8. Put some patterns.
9. IT´S ALIVE, IT´S ALIVE!!
10. ENJOY IT...do yourself a favor, after you check this, make your own patterns, or better WRITE your own drum tracks...Make Some Mike porntnoy´s or Bill Bruford´s drum patterns...

Hope it works.

Nice explanation, Hexatonica...

And keep your eyes on your audio engine button. When you made an auditions in Piano Roll View, sometimes it's turned off by drop out. You need to run the audio engine to hear the sound when you make MIDI pattern.
