Is there anyway to get a trannie amp to do that cool eeeeeeeeeeeeing sound that you get from an overdriven to buggery valve amp?

You know the one, you've heard it on a billion guitar solos since Hendrix.

The simple answer is, get a tube amp. There is no cheap way to do it.

2 things any good guitarist needs are tallent and a good amp.

No, not feedback. It's like when they play the high notes and they just have this sinewave kind of tone that seems to go on beyond the natural lifespan of the sound.

Ok I know what you mean now, like how a good amp whether it has a lot of distortion or not will still sustain the notes a lot longer than a crappy amp even at full distortion, and especially on the high notes it is apparent that it sustains for a really long time as it gradually changes into a feedback kind of sound. The better the amp the more it should do that, but for getting it on a cheap amp, just use a lot of distortion.

A wah pedal will help too, I sometimes leave it on with the pedal forward/down during solos to get a some high end boost and more feedback.

Fuzzface or big muff, standing in the right position in the room. Maybe a compressor. Or something fancy like the Fernandes sustainer or the sustainiac. But I'd really start with the fuzz and see if that gets you there.

Really you are talking about feedback there, and just about any gain soaked solid state amp should get there too. If not, try out an overdrive or distortion pedal, it just might not be as smooth and awesome sounding as a real tube amp.

By the way I love the customized Douglas Adams quote!

I was able to hit all those using an Ibanez Tube Screamer and a 30w Crate. I had gain maxed on my axe and the Amp. I adjusted the overal volume using the master volume knob on the crate. After buying a Tube amp (Fender 75), I didnt need the ibanez pedal anymore, so I cannot remember how i adjusted the pedal for that tone.
