I own/run SattlerStudios in Portland, Oregon... recently made a change from a full-time touring musician to a full-time producer/engineer...

Been doing it for years, but always looking for advice/critiques.

http://www.myspace.com/sattlerstudios

First song is from a full-length I produced/engineered for a band from LA.

Second song is my band. Recorded at my studio, released by Hopeless/Warner Btothers.

Give them a listen and let me know what you think, please.

I'm 19 yrs. old but am very serious about recording

Not too bad overall. My nits are merely artistic.....

Hey - you aren't formerly of the band "forever in a second", are you? Or some of the band maybe?

edit - just to clarify my "artistic" nits were directed at the mixing.

I agree with NL.... not my cup o' tea musically.... the only other nit I have is the fact that your using MySpace to showcase your studios capabilities, and to my ears anything playing on MySpace sucks sonicly.... Whatever they use to stream takes any sonic fidelity right out of the music...

I know I know... Myspace is the devil... I didn't want to shop that link... but I will eventually get a demo reel up on a high bit rate, downloadable mp3... then maybe you can give some constructive criticism.

Thank you anyways. Keep 'em comin'

And no I wasn't in "forever in a second" I am in "Ever We Fall"

LOL, yes it is.... funny thing is is that I thought it was originaly created for musicians....but yet the sound quality is some booleshit...

I'm listening to the first one currently. The recordings are great, what are you using in the way of pres? I'm just finishing my studio up and I bought the same board as you except in the 32 channel frame.

Inputs are as follows for the 1st song:

OH L - Great River / Neumann km184
OH R - Great River / Neumann km 184
Top snare - Avalon 737 / sm57
Bottom snare - Soundtracs / sm57
Kick - Soundtracs / Beta52
Rack - Soundtracs / md421
Floor - Soundtracs / RE20
Room - Soundtracs / Royer R121

The Soundtracs is an amazing and versatile console... The eq's are some of the best I've heard on a console under $20k. I got mine in mint condition from a friend who's uncle happened to own the company, haha... He had 3 of them sitting in road cases in his basement and parted with one for a very reasonable price.

Does anyone know of a place where I can upload the songs at a higher bit rate than myspace? It's bugging me that most of the critiques are about the site I'm streaming the music from. I know my way around a studio, but the internet is a mystery.

Wow, you've got some major $$$ for a 19 year old.

But seriously, those are some killer recordings. I'd send that shit to some colleges with sound engineering majors. If you were considering that route.

keep up the good stuff.

I'd only be picking holes in it really (the drummer drifted for a split second towards the end) thats the only hole i could really find regardless of whether it's been mashed by myspace streams it sounds pretty good to me, the lead guitar and the rhythm, are they treated with line6? sounded like the had POD written all over them. keep up the work

Been there done that for a nonoteen.
Your site took forever to load (too many images etc) & I gave up on the "buffering" after 2 minutes - I'll try again later.

hey man,

like the tunes, even though that's not my thing.

the most glaring thing in the mix seems to be the OH's...I think they need to sit a little farther back in the mix...the kit seems to sound pretty damn good though.

guitar's sound pretty good as well.

I would like to hear it in higher definition though.

There is not a Line6 near these recordings... All guitars and amps are from my personal collection-

'72 Gibson Les Paul Custom "black beauty"
Gibson SG special
Gibson SG X
Fender American Tele

(those were the main ones used on the record)

The amps used were -

Marshall JCM Slash Signature (Jubilee)
THD Univalve
MesaBoogie markIII
Marshall 4x12 1960A (vintage30's)
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 4x10
Fender Champ (early 80's)
Fender Deluxe Reverb 1x12

I only use tube amps unless I'm being paid just to push buttons because some stubborn guitarist wants to use his Crate combo... I'm uploading the mp3's to a better server as I'm typing this because maybe the coloration on the guitars that's being heard is caused by the streaming quality. I'll post some other songs while I'm at it... some different genres that I've produced. What does everyone listen to? I've recorded most things from Hip Hop, to metal, to Native American drums for a "shaman journey" ... Anyone from around Portland?

Does Vancouver count? (the Vancouver right over the bridge- lol)

There are quite a few Portland area people on here actually.
