Greetings,

As you might have guessed from the title, i am looking for an USB- Audiointerface with a good HiZ input to record e-guitar direclty without clipping, and use vst pluggins later
I already found 2 interfaces i consider to buy: Focusrite Scarlett Solo and Presonus audiobox iOne or iTwo. Both interfaces seem to be pretty new, released in September, and there arent may reviews on the internet yet. So i seek the wisdom of this forum, has someone experience with one of those interfaces, or can tell me form the speccs which should better for recording e-guitar.
I read about the scarlett 2i2 that it clipps easily with hot guitar Pick Ups, so i wonder if the Scralet Solo fixed this issue.

I am grateful for any answer,
thanks :D

Input clipping - turn the input gain control down. Simple solution. Any interface that has a hi-Z instrument input should work, you just have to learn to use it.

Presonus do not seem to be disposed to tell us any more about their HZ input other than its 1meg Z, no gain nor max input figure, so if they can't be bothered, why should you? Sod'em.

The Focusrite solo quotes the adequate but not splendid figure of +15dBu for max input, about 3.6volts. Should be fine for most guitars but a good, well clanged humbucker could "crack" it.
But, I for one would not go for that one lunged AI! You WILL wish for that second mic input I am certain! In any event the Steinberg UR22 is only a few more quid, has a second mic channel and an H Z overload point about the same at +10dBV 3.16volts. ...BUT! You can always back off the guitar volume you know!

Ok, yes, the dreaded "Tone Suck" aka HF loss but for recording you do not need a 15mtr lead! A good piece of balanced mic cable wired for low capacitance can be an entirely long enough 1.5-2mtrs and have hardly any effect on the response at all. Or use as buffer, many pedals will do this.

Or! As I am always banging on about peeps "getting their hands dirty" and actually doing a bit of work, bloody MAKE an input attenuator!

Dave.
