How does the E609S rate?

Used to be that all I ever heard about "sticking in the grill" was the SM57.

Obviously, it can't be TOO bad for around $99.00, but how versatile and useful is it??? Is it comparable to the SM57 in it's versatility???

There's a few posts on this mic already. But I'll say that I've had great luck with this mic both live and recording. I bought a few just because I can hang it without a stand way better than a 57.

Great guitar cab/amp mic. I've also used it on a bass cab with excellent results. I've also heard of people using them as tom mics.

Being as I already have a sm57, would this be a good investment (albeit a cheap one) or should I save my pennies and buy something else?

You'll have to decide that for yourself. Is the 57 the only mic you have? Do you think you'll be getting into recording more seriously, or is it just a hobby? Personally, I think it's a good investment. I've only had mine a few months, but I've gotten lots of use out of it. In some cases, I've liked it better than a trusty ol' 57.

The e609 silver is a good investment as stated above. Just like my sm57, ive continued to use it even after i've purchased other/'better' dynamic mics. It's pretty versatile, and will compliment your sm57.

The 57 was all I had until about two weeks ago, excepting Radio shack mics and the like. I bought a SM58 intended for vocals, and a SPB1. Now I'd like to add a bit more "flavor" to micing cabinets.

I'd have to guess that it will only be a hobby for quite some time (probably permanently), as my set up is as simple as my knowledge on the subject, but I'm learning!

I'm kinda torn between buying the E609 (or other mic to be used primarily for guitar cab), or buying better pre's (currently using a mackie 808M). I hear lots of good things about M-audio's pre's (DMP3)....
