Darnold- I was considering keeping it a secret too but I can never seem to keep my mouth shut for long, lol.

Rimshot- It sounds like a rock kick is supposed to sound. Big, full bodied with just enough attack to cut through a mix. You can also EQ the attack very easily to cut through a dense low end. I was playing with the ATM25 for 30 mins trying to get a decent sound then I just stuck the E602 in the kick, pointed at the beater and VOILA!

tex - Actually i didnt intend to keep it a secret but no one would believe me that this truly was an incredible mic for the money :D (like i said before, maybe its because my post number isnt past a thousand?). But then soon after telling people i decided that maybe it was to my advantage that no body knew about it :). Its also cool that we feel the same way about the mics characteristics which doesnt happen very often. Like i mentioned before, you can really EQ the heck out of it without loosing its tightness, which really gives you alot of options for color. There was one time i even put like 16dbs gain in the 4-6k region to give it a certain color i was hearing in my head, just tons of attack, then i compressed it back down and it gave an awesome sound without loosing tightness. Of course on the other hand you dont need to do that for it to cut the mix but its cool that you can.

Rimshot - Honestly, the reason why ive craved the mic soo much is because it really doesnt sound like any of those mics. If anything it sounds more like a 421 with bigger bottom. The bottom on this thing is very tight with punch...but yet...mellow. I dunno how to explain it. Its an awesome sound though.

Ive found it to be extremely versatile. I did a Jazz set with it a while ago and it worked perfect for the round tone. Ive done alot of rock genres that it works well with also, and being able to EQ so nicely makes it even more versatile.

I might really be hyping this mic too much right now, its just that ive loved it so much. Im sure there are definately mics that are better than the like the RE20, and even using combinations. But for $200 i would chose a 602 over a 114 any day (especially since im so sick of hearing the damn 114 on everything i hear, and i personally dont like the basketball sound it gives)

I have an e602 that i got a couple years back cuz a guy i knew highly recommended it. i'm rrealllly happy he did because at the time i had barely any experience and it's one of the only pieces of equipment i bought back then that i haven't wanted to upgrade. it sounds AWSOME. i havent really had many other mics to compare it to but i have compared it to the 52 and i liked my e602 much better.
a year ago it crapped out on me and sennheiser replaced it for free... fuckin sweet

sweet mic and good people

Nobody would believe you that senn made a great mic? It would be hard to believe them allowing anything else to market.

I am not a drummer but I am told that the e604 is as good at toms as the e602 is on kick.

been using the e602 for sometime. Indeed its a very good kick mic, among other weird combos I've stumbled across. The e602 can fit on any style of kicks though, its somewhat versatile. I once tried it on a kit from a jazz player. Beign a jazz player, his kick was somewhat loose, more like a low thump than a thump-snap-attack thing. I tried the e602 as my first choice. Even though I didn't like it at first, we were running out of time and went along with it. At the end, the band came in the CR to listen, and the drummer came to me amazed and told me it was the first time he ever heard anyone got the right sound out his kick right. Go figure ;) (Tough I learned more about what the sound of a jazz kit should be imho)
Another good mic that can be used alone or in combo with a traditional low end kick mic is shure's beta 91. Its a cartridge condenser capable of withstanding high spl's... For miced kicks that already have that bottom power, but lack the attack, this mic works wonders.
