I have been using AA3 for about 2 months now and I love the way it works, but I have one issue. I have moved on to a new mic setup and it changed the way I monitor. I have the M-Audio Producer USB. Since it has headphone monitoring built in it makes monitoring out my speakers a pain. I want to find a way to output to the monitor on the mic and my soundcard at the same time. using a splitter off the mic is a pain in the ass. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? I was thinking of using a bus to do it, but since I am new to this program I am lost.

What type of driver does the mic use, ASIO or WDM? If it's ASIO, then the answer to your question is no. Your mic is also your audio interface (basically it takes the place of your soundcard), and ASIO only allows 1 audio device, so when using the mic, your soundcard will not work.

Not sure why you want monitors working while you are using a mic though? This will create feedback problems and also screw up your recording because the mic will be hearing itself in the monitors. That's why we track with headphones. To keep unwanted sounds out of the mic.

I am using the Audition 3.0 Windows Sound driver right now since it shows the mic and the sound card. prior to this I was using the ASIO driver to the mic. The reason I want both outputs is so that when someone is recording I they can monitor off the mic and I can monitor off the soundcard. I don't want to keep asking for headphones to check the mix.

OK, I'm still confused though. To check the mix, you wouldn't be recording and converely, when recording, you certainly don't want audio coming out of your monitors.

For what you are asking, I'm afraid a USB mic is the wrong piect of gear to use. A standard mic with a dedicated audio interface would be the correct choice. Also, ASIO is the preferred driver for audio because of it's low latency.

That said, to use what you have,

Set your outputs in AA3 for 2 signal paths. Now with buses as you said, you can set up 1 bus with the first signal path as an output (make this your soundcard) and the second path as an output (USB Mic).
Now on each track you want to monitor, set up 2 sends to each of the busses. Increase the send level to the desired amount and you should have 2 distinct outputs, one to the headphones and the other to your monitors.

just to clear it up, audio will not come out of the monitors when recording. There will be a pair of headphones on that line at that time. I used to have different equipment before, and it was easier then, but I sold all of it when I found out I had no time to work on it. When I got chance to get back into it, the USB mic was an easy in. I will rebuild it all up to how I once had it, but this is good for now.
