Selling Mesa dual rec, looking for combo now, but what one?

any good gig worthy combos out there anyone can recomend? Also I noticed my mesa 3 channel's distortion didnt break up like i wanted it to. So I ran my metal zone though it to get some extra crunch. I am considering possible just getting a clean amp and using my pedal for distortion. Any pro's or con's on this? I also think it would be benificial to computer based recording since I could just plug my pedal board into my computer and have distortion withough amping the mic to record. Any pro's and con's on this?
 
What kind of sound are you looking for? There are tons of great combos that are gig worthy you just need to look around a little bit. Fender makes a bunch of great combos. If you're looking for a higher gain amp you could look at a Peavey JSX or for something with more balls maybe an Orange. As far as recording goes, well, going direct in just doesn't do it as well as a good amp does. IMHO it doesn't even really do that well period. If you're dead set on the pedal then you could go with a combo like a Roland JC-120 which is a great clean amp.
 
Well I am going for a high gain sound, like "Tool"ish tonewise. Upon futher thought, I am going to use the amp's distortion. What do you think as far a Orange vs. Peavey, or those vs Marshal combos?

This thread makes me want to cry.

The guitar player in my band has a custom made PRS that cost him over $3400. He also has 2 Les Pauls, 2 Strats, and 2 Tele's, all of which were carefully selected for their tone as well as looks. He has a Soldano amp which is being modified as we speak. In addition, two different Marshall rigs (don't remember the pair of hears, I think the 30 anniversay heads, and a JTM 60 combo!) A Fender Hotrod Deville rounds out the amp selection (if you don't count the POD's, and the high dollar pedals) Something like 4 different speaker box setup's, all with different 12" speakers in them.

The combo's are endless, and depending upon what we record, we use different stuff!

Often, you will NEVER achieve tones like Tool without VERY expensive gear, and custome modifications to it. Expect to spend at least $7000 on your basic rig.
 
You used a metal zone with the 3rd channel on a Mesa Dual? Uh...why?

Anyway, if you're going for a Tool sound, you'd be surprised how little gain he uses...especially on the recording.

You might check out Bogner or Diezel as well.
 
I have to agree with the recording comment. Often times getting a great distorted guitar recording requires that you back off a bit to keep the sound from getting muddy. Backing off the gain gets a little tighter sound then, double track to get the "big sound".
 
Can you recommend a good combo Bass amp to play Guitar out of.

I am looking to get a high gain sound also, any recommendations?
