Yeah, I know you can play around and make some cool new sound from it and that's its been done 100 times over, but still. I know it's usually hip hop or whatever people call it, but... I just feel if I had written a new song, I wouldn't have as much pride in it knowing parts of it are "samples." Just my 2cents. And yeah, I'm not much for hiphop, so I am biased.
I might not agree.. but I understand what you mean...
I try to sample artists that I care about or ones who are quite possibly dead and gone (or both).. That way I know people who I care about will be getting money, if I get big with a song... Don't know if that makes sense to anyone else, or not..
If you ever get really bored some time.. Sit down and attempt to sample something... Not only will, most likely, find it difficult (to conceptualize what you will be doing with that sample, before hand)... You'll probably find it difficult to connect it back to it's source... On the real... If I was a musician of the past, I'd be trying to get people sampling my stuff... A) it's cool (to me anyway).. b) I get paid ...
It's funny that everyone talks about sampling not being a "true artform"... Like I'd rather be making pseudo-metal or be in a boyband...haha!.. I'd venture to say that the majority of musical progress in the past decade has been in hip hop and therefore sampling... (in my opinion, of course)...
Either way.. I'm rambling.. no harsh feelings..just felt like typing...
Edit: prolly more than a decade
