I'm totally not diggin' my overhead tones with these AKG C1000's. They are tolerable for acoustic guitar, but they are too harsh for cymbals/overheads IMHO.

Should I sell them, and put up the extra cash for some SP C4's, or some octava MC012's (that are only 100/pair at Guitar Center right now!), or something else you might recommend.

I'm looking for a more hard rock overhead/cymbal mic, something that doesn't sound trashy, but warm and suddle in the highs and mids!

thanks for any opinions/recommendations!

The Oktava MC-012's are nice budget overhead mic's, and the AKG 451's kickass as overheads. I only have one Josephson C42 right now so I haven't use them as overheads yet... but, I have a feeling the C42's will kickass as O.H's too.

I just got a set of these. GC has them for $99/two. Great mics. I love the manual that comes in russian language only with vodka and tobacco stains on them. Cool mics that sound very good. Someone was sober the day they built mine 'cause the quality of build/component/solder is excellent on both.

If you are lucky enough to find the MK012's at GC you'd be nuts not to get them. They do overheads well and $100 a pair is chump change. I have had good luck with MK319's as well. Sp B1 does a good job too IMO.

Blessings, Terry

I like my CAD e-1000's for overheads. They don't make them anymore but you can still find them around.
