I am in the market for (mostly) a PCI ADAT card & interface I can use for simultaneous multi track recording. I have been doing some research for equipment in my price range (entry level for the most part) and came across the EMU 1212M PCI card with ADAT in and out and the Behringer ADA 8000 ultragain pro, which is basically an 8 channel pre amp with adat ins and outs with a world clock.

Now I dont know much about adat or world clocking for that matter. Just that they can carry multiple channels at low latency.

(Note: I would not be using the behringer pre's as I have an analog soundcraft mixer that I can run my channels thru)

Is this worth the cash? or is there other equipment I can consider?

Suggestions welcome!

I don't have any specific positive suggestions - But I can tell you one thing from personal experience -- Avoid the ADA8000. I know a lot of people get ragged on for ragging on Behringer. But that POS brings the term "POS" to an entirely new level. Had to use a rig of four of them once - Amazingly bad situation. Out of 32 inputs, I think I could find 6 or 7 of them that were within a dB or two at the same input level. No usable headroom, unclear, unfocused, pinched, inconsistent.

As worthless as Windows Vista.

I haven't used it but SonicCore (formerly Creamware) has a 16 channel AD/DA ADAT interface (no pres line in /out) for I think about $800 or so. The model A-16. I have the previous 20 bit version the of the A-16 but have not yet hooked it up.
