Ok, I have a 00 gateway PC with Windows ME. I'd like to change it into my means for recording instead of using my BR1180. I'd also like to use something simple like Cakewalk GT3. Has anyone run into problems running this newer recording software on an old operating system??

I've never used Cakewalk. Look up the system requirements and see if your computer will run it ok. Also make sure it will run on Windows ME.

I would consider upgrading to Windows XP, or maybe down to 98 if the software will run on it.

Everyone I've known to use Windows ME always had problems.

Most newer softwares have already phased out older windows like 98 & ME. Some companies choose to offer their software to run on it, most won't now a days so I suggest you upgrade your operating system either way. And maybe even your computer... From what I remember, the gateway 2k was slow... for me at least... Anyways, from what I also remember, GT3 will not run on any opererating system less than windows 2000 & XP (meaning ME will not work, windows 98, 95, 3.1 etc). I also can't remember exactly what processor that gateway had, but I think it was under 800mhz (which is also minimal for GT3), and needs 128mb.

Using any machine with Windows ME is just a bad idea. You can pick up Windows XP home pretty cheap and it will be worth it.

I run Cakewak Pro Audio 9.3 on 2 machines. One at 98 & one at XP. The reason being the age of the machine, processor etc.
98 does just beautifully for my prog. Records well & manages all the issues. the prog has no probs with 98 as it's an older comp.
XP eats up LOTS & LOTS of CPU & RAM with background work & you need to do a LOT of optimising to run a recording prog on XP to get the best out of it.
I ran my XP comp at ME until I got a bug online & had to reinstall & couldn't get ME to do so.
I now keep the music comps off line so there's NO NEED for all the bells & whistles of XP as the machine is dedicated to audio recording.
Remember all the probs with XP when it came out?
Most are still there though patched by SP1 & SP2. It's still a dicky OS.
