I just purchased a Seagate HDD that records perpindicular, which boasts faster seek times comparable to a 10k RPM drive. Was wondering if anyone had any experience with this? The purpose is for higher track count playback. Thanks!

All the hard drive manufacturers do it at this point. Unfortunately, they still haven't worked the kinks out, and I've seen much higher HD failure rates since the industry switched to perpendicular storage (four failures last year, compared with an average of one every three years in non-perpendicular drives). It all comes down to this: buy two and keep regular backups.

Thanks for the info- actually, I did not know the industry changed to perp recording. I am still considering getting a 10k drive, and Western Digital puts one out that has glam reviews. Have you by chance used a 10k drive and what kind of track playback are we talking about here? When I recorded my stuff several years ago, I was maxing out at around 32 - 38 3 minute tracks seamlessly with effects. Is it worth the upgrade?
